Trio Joins Parks, Perry & Davis in South L.A. to Fire-Up Garcetti Volunteers

Eric Garcetti was endorsed by Council President Herb Wesson and former South L.A. councilmembers Nate Holden and Rita Walters, who joined with councilmembers Jan Perry and Bernard Parks and former Assemblyman Mike Davis in Leimert Park to fire up Garcetti volunteers headed out to knock on doors and phone bank.

“This city is facing serious challenges and we need a serious leader to help move this city in the right direction,” said Wesson.

[Garcetti’s] been an effective leader; you want a mayor who can bring people together. Pension reform passed and he’s taken a lot of hits for that, but that’s courage. That’s what you want to see in our next mayor.”

“I support Eric Garcetti for mayor because he’ll make the right decisions,” Holden said.

“If we get Eric Garcetti elected, he’ll be fair to all of us. He can represent a diverse city better than anyone I know. He will solve the problems we have at City Hall.”

“It’s important that we work together to make sure Eric Garcetti is elected mayor. We’ve got to do it and we will do it,” said Walters.

“I’ve worked with both candidates and know first-hand that Eric Garcetti is the best choice for mayor. Eric has a demonstrated record creating jobs and solving problems for his constituents and has the independence necessary to balance our budget,” Parks said. “Eric will be a mayor who will create opportunity for my constituents and in every L.A. community. You can see the difference he can make in neighborhoods like Hollywood. I strongly endorse Eric Garcetti for mayor.”

“I am proud to endorse Eric Garcetti for mayor,” Perry said. “I spent the last two years seeing the candidates up close. It’s clear that the best choice for mayor is Eric Garcetti. Eric has the independence we need to balance the budget. Eric will bring opportunity to South L.A. and across Los Angeles just like he has in neighborhoods like Hollywood and Echo Park, which have been dramatically revitalized through his leadership.”

“I strongly endorse Eric Garcetti for mayor. Eric is the best choice for South L.A. and all of Los Angeles,” Davis said. “Eric is a mayor who will make a difference in every L.A. community by creating jobs and focusing on basic services that keep our streets clean and safe.”

The Hon. Nate Holden represented the 10th Council District from 1987 to 2002. The Hon. Rita Walters represented the 9th Council District from 1991 to 2001.

Garcetti has also been endorsed by the New Frontier Democratic Club, the preeminent African American Democratic organization in Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles African American Women Political Action Committee. He has been endorsed by each of the three runoff candidates in the mayor’s race — Jan Perry, Kevin James and Emanuel Pleitez.

Garcetti is also endorsed by the Los Angeles Times; La Opinión; Eastern Group Publications (including the Northeast Sun, Mexican American Sun, East LA Brooklyn Belvedere Comet and Wyvernwood Comet); Random Lengths and the UCLA Daily Bruin.

Garcetti has also been recently endorsed by: Councilmember Tom LaBonge; Assemblymember Ed Chau; Steve Soboroff; Councilmember Joe Buscaino, Councilmember Paul Krekorian; Councilmember Paul Koretz; Councilmember-Elect Mike Bonin; and Senator and CA Democratic Party Chair Art Torres (ret.).
