Wesson Begins Re-election Bid with Flurry of Endorsements

Herb Wesson

Signifying the fact that he’s taking his re-election campaign seriously, Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson announced a flurry of influential endorsements as he campaigns to win support from residents throughout the 10th Council district.

 Those endorsing Council President Wesson include:

·          Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP)

·          United Firefighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC) Local 112

·          Sierra Club- Angeles Chapter

·          Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV)

·          Los Angeles County Federation of Labor

·          Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Jobs PAC

 Eric C. Bauman, Chair, Los Angeles County Democratic Party stated:

“The Los Angeles County Democratic Party is pleased to endorse Herb Wesson for re-election to the L.A. City Council. In the State Legislature and on the City Council, Herb has been fearless in his pursuit of social justice and progressive policies that have improved the lives of millions of Californians. He is a champion for the Democratic Party. “

 Frank Lima, president of United Firefighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC) Local 112, remarked:

 “L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson understands the critical importance of the Fire Department and has been a strong supporter of our Firefighters throughout his career . Together, we’ve worked to enhance emergency response operations and improve public safety in Los Angeles. That’s why we’re pleased to endorse Herb Wesson for re-election. He is clearly the best candidate for City Council district 10 and has earned the support of our LA City Firefighters.”

In a letter sent to Wesson’s campaign, Howard Strauss, Political Chair of the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter wrote:

“I am pleased to inform you that the Sierra Club has endorsed your candidacy in the Los Angeles City Council election, District 10 in appreciation of your demonstrated commitment to protecting the environment. The Sierra Club endorsement means a lot to our members in your district and to the general voting public. Our endorsement sends a message of your strong support for the environment and your proven track record in environmental issues. The Sierra Club wholeheartedly extends our support for your campaign to help elect you to public office.”

 The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) President Tom Eisenhauer wrote:

“Herb Wesson has a strong track record of bringing people together, working with diverse stakeholders, and delivering significant accomplishments on environmental, public health and quality-of-life issues for the 10th District. He’s proven time and again that he’s an effective leader for the 10th District and the entire city.”

Rusty Hicks, Executive Secretary of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor said the following in announcing his support of Wesson:

 “Not many elected leaders have accomplished what Herb Wesson has. Throughout his career, Herb’s been at the forefront of numerous efforts to reduce poverty, raise living standards, create positive social change, produce more good jobs and broaden the middle class. Working people believe in Herb’s vision to lead L.A. forward and level the playing field for average Angelenos. He has our full support.”

 Gary Toebben, president of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Jobs PAC stated:

 “Herb Wesson is a pragmatic problem solver who knows how to build bridges among competing interests and get things done. That’s why he’s been so successful throughout his career, both in the State Assembly and on the City Council. From job creation to helping businesses grow, and making Los Angeles more competitive, Herb’s common sense oriented approach to governing has been a real asset for the City and our region. We are pleased to endorse him for re-election to the City Council.”

 Responding to the early endorsements and statements above, Council President Herb Wesson remarked:

 “I take every election seriously, particularly when I’m on the ballot. That’s why I’m rolling up my sleeves and putting in the time and effort to earn crucial endorsements like these, from key groups, as well as from the grassroots community and in local neighborhood throughout the 10th district. In the weeks ahead, I plan to continue campaigning in every corner across the district to talk about the issues, hear voters’ concerns, and learn about their goals for the City.

 I really appreciate these endorsements from Los Angeles County’s grassroots Democrats, our City’s courageous firefighters and emergency responders, Los Angeles’ working men and women, local environmental activists and leaders, as well as our region’s business community. Thank you all very much for your support.”
