There’s a saying, “a body in motion stays in motion.” I live a life that stays in motion. I truly love what I do and I am grateful it has purpose. Over the years I’ve learned the necessity of taking breaks and pausing to reflect and enjoy the moment. As a Coach, Consultant, or an advocate for Forgiving For Living, I oftentimes have to travel, which can create an illusion that I’m always on vacation. This is not true, however, I am trying to enjoy the beauty of every opportunity.
This past week marked my first year wedding anniversary. My husband Jerome and I had the wonderful opportunity to pause and take in the sights of Honolulu, Hawaii. More specifically Waikiki Beach. At first when we started talking about going, my mind was set on Maui. I thought Honolulu would have too many tourist, it would be too busy, and I did not want congestion! I also thought since it was such a “busy” place, I wouldn’t be able to turn off my mind from work and just relax. Jerome reminded me that he would make sure I relaxed and let go of work for just a few days.
Since this was the first time my husband had ever been to Hawaii, he was set on Honolulu. As we talked it through, I thought Wendy you don’t have to direct and be the event planner for everything (my nickname with my family is “Director”), and so I gave in and Honolulu it was! Letting go isn’t so bad.
Although we went through quite a bit (our plane was delayed for hours at LAX before we actually left, our luggage was lost for two days, I suffered from allergies, I threw my back out, and we had rain several days), I have to say it was one of the best vacations I enjoyed in quite some time. Together we turned off the world, we talked, we took walks, we laughed, we read, we looked back and reflected on what God brought us through and we said prayers of gratitude. We made time for each other without distractions. We also were able to make plans for our future. Oh yes, Honolulu was busy, but we loved the fireworks!
Healing Without Hate: It’s a choice. It’s a lifestyle. Pass it on!
