Lead actor Chioke Jelani Clanton discusses internet television versus cable networks.

Red Sleep is a new urban-noir web tv series starring lead actor Chioke Jelani Clanton as Clyde Harris who is an escaped prison inmate eager for a new life.  Premiering on the web May 5th Red Sleep airs exclusively on Harris begins his next chapter entering a U.S. military experimental drug program in exchange for his freedom. After release from the drug program, Harris tries to develop a new identity and life in Los Angeles, but is hindered by the side effects of the drugs and by the hands of the U.S. military.

Clanton recalls receiving the role of Clyde Harris through friend and director, Andre Welsh, “Anytime he has a project going on, I want to be a part of it – no matter how small or large the role is.

With Web TV series increasing in popularity, Clanton feels Red Sleep serves a greater purpose online versus cable tv, “people are moving away from cable network television.” While cable network pushes new and attention-grabbing series along with suitable price packages for consumers, he states  that the prices of cable tv have a lot of people moving  away from Comcast and Time Warner, “consumers are now going online directly to YouTube to look at videos and other media output.”

In regards to, “what differentiates it from Hulu or Netflix is that it features independent and creator-owned content that doesn’t have any advertisement or commercials,” Clanton acknowledges.  “Two years ago, this would be great to be on network cable television versus online, but now we are moving into 2015 and beyond. I love being on an internet television station.”

Being an online Web TV series provides a space for creative writing, “when you do things independently, you always own and control more,” states Clanton in regards to owing your own content versus going through a larger network.

“There are about six companies that control different networks where someone else is telling you as an actor, artist or creator what to do. Clanton tells those who are eager to produce their own idea, “control and own what you create, I would say do things independently and find a way to hone and control your artistry.”

Red Sleep provides exposure and work for the working actor.  “Beyond just thinking of Web TV series, if actors or actresses aren’t seeing the type of roles offered, it would be better for them to produce their own work and develop a following around certain types of characters, but if there constantly waiting for opportunities to come through their agent, they are going to be few, far and between roles and chances.”

On how it feels to be a lead actor, “it feels good, I’m very happy with the opportunity to work with the cast. I am able to play a part while working with so many talented actors.”

Filled with suspense and thrills, the series’ leading star is staying busy on the hunt for his own path.  “Harris is trying to navigate through his confusion; he pieces together a lot of things from his past so he can connect with the present while gathering a plan for the future.  While being manipulated, he is on a journey.” The characters are honest, “they refuse to lie to themselves, with dialogue, scenario and stories, this is one of those series that is unapologetic, brash, and in your face.”

Red Sleep is not only a candid web series but is recognized as great entertainment. The series was voted “World’s biggest champion of scripted, serialized storytelling on TV and the web” for three weeks in a row on “We Love Soaps: Indie Series of the Week.”  Actors and actresses from have received recognition as talented entertainers winning spots on the Indie Series Actor and Actress of the Week poll.

“That was really cool because this was a project that we all believed in, the humble actor continued in astonishment, “to receive an overwhelming and positive response from people in the independent film and web series community is great, we still have a lot more work to do, but getting an honor on “We Love Soaps Indies Series” poll for two weeks in a row, is a great accomplishment for everyone involved.”
