Bishop James B. Walker
Bishop James B. Walker, the 56th Bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal (C.M.E.) Church, will be the speaker at the Connectional Laity Day service on Sunday, October 9, at 4:00 p.m.
The observance will be held at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church located at 971 East 43rd Street in Los Angeles. Rev. Joseph C. Gardner, Sr. is the host pastor.
Connectional Laity Day is observed on the second Sunday in October throughout the C.M.E. Church. Bro. D. Bruce Levingston is the Southern California Region Lay Leader.
A native of Oklahoma, Bishop Walker was elected at the 37th General Conference of the C.M.E. Church in 2009. Currently, he serves as presiding prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District, which encompasses congregations in Alaska, Arizona, California, Oklahoma, Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico and the state of Washington.
He earned an undergraduate degree at Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma and received a Master’s of Divinity degree at Phillips School of Theology at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Also, he is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
Bishop Walker is married to Delois Woody-Walker and they have two daughters and one grandson.
