Urban Driver: Mercedes E 350 – 5 Passenger Sedan

Television commercials tout the fact that this is the ninth generation of the E-class. The 2010 Mercedes E 350 sedan sets the bar for sedan performance, handling, comfort, convenience, safety and security.

The E 350 epitomizes what a great luxury class, hand-crafted vehicle that can withstand everyday use, is supposed to be about. It’s smart looking, not over engineered, effortless to drive in any situation with surprisingly efficient fuel economy.

It is stylish from front to rear with a bold updated design. Consistent styling updates have become the trademark of Mercedes Benz and a hallmark of its traditionally strong resale value. The exterior is sleek and “California Sporty” and has that “24/7 ready-to-go-look.” The large two-tier headlights and broad taillights provide a feeling of increased safety. The sportiness and eye appeal is enhanced by dual exhaust with chrome tips.  The E350’s 321 Sports Package comes with attractive 18” Five-spoke wheels in performance enhancing tires; lowered sport suspension and Sport Body styling.

The interior is comfortable and the restyled E350 maintains that crisp elegantly subdued, handcrafted Mercedes feel evidenced by hand polished Burl Walnut trim throughout.

There are numerous features; 14-way power adjustable front seats including four-way lumbar adjust and three-position memory, tilt telescopic steering column and exterior mirrors with memory; power tilt sliding sunroof, intermittent wipers with rain sensors for difficult driving days, an eight-speaker sound system and more.

The premium interior package (optional) can further enhance drivability and includes a command system with 40GB hard drive, GPS Navigation, real time traffic data, voice control, G & B music register, Harman-Kardon Logic 7 surround system with Dolby Digital 5.1HD radio, power rear window sunshade, and a rear view camera. For extra comfort there is an optional Drive Dynamic multi-contour driver’s seat with message.

It’s quick enough for Southern California freeway driving, accelerating 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, powered by a 268 HP engine with a smooth 7- speed driver adaptive transmission with steering shift paddles.  It handles admirably with front suspension; three-link independent strut-type with stabilizer bar, rear suspension: 5-link independent stabilizer bar and four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock brake assist. The E350 is a perfect mix of performance and handling.

Mercedes has always been out front in the areas of Safety and Security.  The 2010 E350 features, steel reinforced cabin with front and rear crumple zones. It has Isofix Anchored Tether Systems for child seats. Along with the front and rear airbags there are side window airbags, front side bags, driver and front passenger pelvic airbags, driver knee airbags, and Neck Pro-Active head restraints. There is Roll-Over Sensor and a unique attention assist Driver Drowsiness Monitor to keep you alert on the road. Mercedes provides the Mercedes Benz Maintenance System along with a four-year 50,000 mile warranty and 24-hour roadside assistance.  The E350 is a winner.
