Several family and community events are being sponsored by United Gospel Outreach this fall, announced Rev. Joseph and Mrs. Evelyn Curtiss, founders and program directors.
All activities are held at UGO Headquarters at 7229 South Main Street in Los Angeles, located next to the Word of Life Christian Bookstore.
“Health Awareness Seminars are conducted the third Saturday of each month at 12 noon. Come and hear about healthy natural alternatives to improving your health. Also, you can meet Dr. Jolly Harris, author of ‘Home Cooking to Cure Cancer.’ And the session is free,” said Rev. Curtiss.
Spanish Speaking Classes, a 10-week course, are available every Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor John Edwards is the instructor and on-site registration is available.
“Why should Blacks learn to speak Spanish? Because Spanish is a fast growing language and it is spoken by more than 110 million people. It is also the second most widely spoken language in the United States,” noted Rev. Curtiss.
“You can begin speaking Spanish with a good pronunciation, master the rules to the Spanish sounds, and achieve the goal of communication and transliterate in this comprehensive course in basic Spanish. There are great benefits in this knowledge,” he said.
In addition, planning is underway for UGO’s 2012 summer camp. The first meeting is set for Saturday, September 24. All interested in assisting with the camp ministry are invited to attend. The following month, meetings will be held the third Saturday of each month. Saundra Nelson is the camp director and Joseph R. Curtiss III is the program coordinator.
Part 1 of the Family and Marriage Enrichment Seminar will be held Friday, September 23, at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Part II takes place on Friday, October 7, and Saturday, October 8.
“The ‘Planning for Successful Marriage’ session focuses on five major areas for challenge in marriage: finances, communication, sex, in-laws and religion. This training, taught by Tom and Jeanine Gonzalez, is designed for leadership training and those desiring to teach these Biblical principles,” Rev. Curtiss said.
