The Trinity Baptist Church Family along with former members, community leaders, visitors and friends showered a tremendous amount of love on Pastor Alvin Tunstill, Jr., First Lady Dr. Sandra Mitchell-Tunstill and their children on April 10 at the 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., worship services.

Pastor Tunstill was honored for his 15 years of outstanding leadership at Trinity. During this period, he instituted many innovative programs and an abundance of new ministries designed to enhance the spiritual growth of individual members as well as the growth of Trinity Baptist Church in the building of God’s Kingdom and the community. These were key focal points in this celebration.

The Pastor’s 15th Anniversary Celebration Committee, which consisted primarily of ministers and department heads, engaged the participation of the congregation to include the children, youth, young adults, adults, senior citizens and volunteers. The success of the celebration was manifested in the many comments shared by many of the people in attendance.

Both services were very well attended and full of prayer, praise and thanks, to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Those in attendance enjoyed a beautiful reception after each service.

The 7:30 a.m. guest speaker, Rev. John Reamer, Jr., pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Los Angeles, gave a ‘soul stirring’ message entitled, “Keep Running, Pastor” based on Hebrews 12:1 – 2 . Rev. Carlton Rhoden, pastor of First Baptist Church of Los Angeles, was guest speaker for the 10:30 a.m. worship service and gave a very inspiring message from Exodus 17:1 – 7 entitled, “Handling Critical People during Critical Times.” Both messages were very well received by the congregation.

Beautiful gifts, commendations and acknowledgments were presented to the Tunstills by Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, California State Senator Curren D. Price, Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks and California Assemblyman Mike Davis.

Other commendations and acknowledgments were received from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Sheriff Lee Baca, Councilman Herb Wesson, The Jefferson Park Board of Directors, Rev. Dr. Dumas A. Harshaw, Jr., Pastor, First Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, and The Western States Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. J. Benjamin Hardwick.
