“In Da Beginning” is the Story of Creation expressed through the artistic direction of Broadway dancer and choreographer, Cyd Glover-Hill. One night only, at the USC Bovard Auditorium, Saturday June 27, 2009 at 6:30pm, featuring young emerging dancers, choreographers, and actors performing alongside seasoned professionals.
In Da Beginning takes the audience on a musical journey, as G-Son, searches for understanding and an explanation for the imperfections of the world in which he lives. Many in society, as evidenced by daily news headlines, are looking for answers to why? Why is the economy so bad…why are innocent people being killed…why am I losing my home? In Da Beginning offers hope and healing during these trying times.
The production features a diverse musical score that includes classical, world, gospel, soul, jazz, a modern rendition of “Flight of the Bumble Bee,” the theme from “Shaft,” and much more. It also presents an array of dance styles from tapping bees, to salsa butterflies, and African dancing birds. In Da Beginning tells the story of Creation like never before, offering something for everyone.
In Da Beginning is not only a wonderful experience for those who see it, but also for those participating in the production. It is a well-rounded educational and cultural experience for those participating as dancers, actors, choreographers, and stage crew, providing hands on experience for young people ages 3-25 and the “young at heart.”
In Da Beginning: A Musical Journey from Existence to Life is presented by Art In Motion (AIM), a 501(c)3 founded in 1997, based in Carson, California at the En Step Performing-arts Nation studio (ESPN). It is sponsored in part by The City of Carson Fine Arts & Historical Commission.
