The Clippers are being heard

Eric Gordon is having his best season, and Blake Griffin is amazing as the Clippers knocked off both the Heat and the Lakers.  But as LeBron James said, they cannot simply get up for the best teams.  A loss to at Golden State shows that the Clippers still need to be consistent. Wins against the Heat and Lakers shows that this team can play with anybody.

It’s still too early to plug the Clippers as a playoff team in the Western Conference, but if they continue to play with confidence and heart, it’s a fifty-fifty chance they could make it.

After staying on the team bus back in December to discuss their failures privately as a unit, there has been a positive sign from the team. The meeting has led them to beat top-notch teams in the NBA.  Just to name a few, the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Chicago Bulls. They have also won nine of their last twelve games after that close door meeting.

“It shows we are capable of beating good teams,” Blake Griffin said. “It would be better if we would keep beating those teams and start beating everybody else as well.”

The Clippers are trying to be heard around the league. They have two of the most talented players on their roster right now. Eric Gordon and Griffin are bringing heated ammunition to the line-up .You don’t really hear too much about Gordon, but he’s quietly having his season.  He’s averaging a career high 23.6 points per game this season, and has emerged as a team leader. Griffin has parlayed his way to his 27th consecutive double-double this season, and scored a career-high 47 points against the Indiana Pacers.

It’s hard to remember the slump the Clippers were in at the start of the season. At one point, they had only won two out of thirteen games. They are making a remarkable turnaround and Baron Davis is proving that he still has love for basketball.

“We are trying to establish something here and continue to find our identity,” Davis said.

But before we really start bragging on the Clippers, they have a lot more to prove. What we can say is that they are knocking on their neighbors’ door.  Should the Lakers start to sweat?  I would eventually say yes they should.

The Clippers are starting to figure out the pieces to the puzzle.  Every player on the team is learning their role and staying accustom to it. There’s no doubt that the offense is built around Gordon and Griffin, but they have a lot of weapons on that roster that could come in and knock down shots. This team is really maturing and getting smarter with the ball.

“We are learning and getting better everyday,” Gordon said.

There has been much better ball movement and defense from the Clippers. If you are paying close attention, you will notice the pace of their games have improved on both ends of the floor. Davis is also being a leader and mentor to the youngsters. Something we really didn’t see him do last season.  Davis isn’t trying to get his stats up, but he’s just trying to make plays when he’s handling the ball.

“I’m out there trying to make plays,” Davis said.
