A Veterans Christmas Celebration “Gives the Gift of Love”
It was a day of joy, laughter as the Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary hosted their 27th Annual Christmas Party to honor local community Veterans, and hospitalized Veterans from the Greater Los Angeles VA Medical Center, on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the American Legion Jackie Robinson Post 252 located at 3828 W. Slauson Ave., Los Angeles, California.
The celebration was organized by the Chairman of the Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, Judith Allen and her committee of Santa’s Helpers (Unit & Post Members) as they kicked off the day with social hour giving the Veterans time to mingle with their counterparts laughing and sharing memories of past to present events that touched their lives.
The day continued with approximately 125 male and female veterans partaking in a delicious holiday meal with all the trimmings. The Veterans were entertained with holiday music and dancing to the sounds of music by DJ Mr. Groove, a Post 252 Legionnaire.
Judith indicated, “It was such a joy to see the glow in the eyes of these Veterans as they received their gifts of winter scarves, socks, t-shirts, toiletries and candy”. The afternoon ended with the Veterans enlightening us on the ranks they held as they served our county from the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force.
The Veterans departed the celebration by giving hugs and kisses to the members of Jackie Robinson Post 252 for making their wishes and dreams come true.
