LOS ANGELES, CA – In the explosive company of Wendy Raquel Robinson, NAACP Image Award winner for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series and Vanessa Williams from the Showtime hit series Soul Food, two fierce black actresses on the Red Carpet at the 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards perfectly described the annual event as the “Black Oscars”. In addition to the pre-show, hosted by Kevin Frazier and Tanika Ray, the entire evening was broadcasted live on TV One, the new home of the NAACP Image Awards and hosted by Anthony Anderson.

Some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry appeared including Lupita Nyong’o, Idris Elba, Tyler Perry, Kerry Washington, Michael Ealy, Tony Goldwyn, Arsenio Hall, Regina Hall, Archie Panjabi, Dennis Haysbert, Kevin Hart, Rickey Smiley, Nicole Beharie, Lou Gossett Jr., Vin Diesel, Sherri Shepherd, Terry Crews, Nia Long, Naomie Harris, Morris Chestnut, Chadwick Boseman, Shemar Moore, Tyrese Gibson, Ed Asner, Tika Sumpter, Gary Owen, and Ben Vereen.

Oprah Winfrey honored Nelson Mandela with a tribute, Kevin Hart was named Entertainer of the Year and Actor Forest Whitaker received the NAACP Chairman’s Award. Paris Barclay and Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the first African-American Presidents of the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, respectively, were inducted into the Image Awards Hall of Fame. Dennis Haysbert was the in-show announcer.

Without question, the night was filled with legacy builders, exceptional talent and graceful acknowledgements from stars and architects of creativity all of whom adorn movie and television screens, theater stages, interactive media platforms and behind the scenes.
