The event is over, but the memory of Sunday, June 16, still lingers on. It was lights camera and action again on Father’s Day as the honorees strolled down the red carpet at the 12th Annual Honor Thy Father Awards Dinner Ceremony. Family, friends and well wishers helped to celebrate their father, uncle or male mentor at this year’s annual event.

The affair was held at the Proud Bird with standing room only as audience members watched a pre-tapped presentation called “Words From The Heart,“ where family and friends gave their testimony of gratitude.

The mistress of ceremonies was Ms. Pearl Jr, an author, activist, journalist and producer. Gerry Foster, the master of ceremonies, has been noted as the international Master Brand Strategist who specializes in transforming products and services into powerful brands.

Most of the honorees in attendance had no idea that they were being honored.

“Family and friends were pretty good at keeping it a secret,” said an event spokesperson.

Mr. Reginald Brass received the Community Vanguard Award. Brass is the founder of My Child Says Daddy.  Cosemore Troy, a single parent, known by his family to have never missed a day of work, was honored by his son Ryan and daughter Charmaine. Dwayne Orange was honored not only by his family, but his community of friends that came out to celebrate his tribute. Orange, a retired LAPD Officer is known as a coach and mentor. Odell Mack, the patriarch of his family, who is a father, grandfather, and great grandfather, was also surprised. Recently Mr. Mack completed a starring role in a major motion picture, and took his first red carpet walk.

Daryl Davis, an assistant minister, a husband and father was another surprised honoree. David Gilliam was honored posthumously by his wife Cynthia and two sons, Isaiah and Nathaniel. David Gilliam was known for “getting things done.” Ivan Davis Sr. was honored by his son Ivan Davis Jr., who continues to thrive because of his close relationship with his father. Mr. Davis Sr. is known for his words of inspiration, and wisdom.

Entertainment was provided by NADINE, Chazz, Dennis Flowers, Mekiel Reuben and the CREW. SunPrince debuted his Bloodline, Honor, Integrity Box, which is a component to resolve issues, and keep the family in communication.
