Anita Jackson, owner of Zelma’s Soul Food said her menu at this year’s Taste of Soul on October 20, will consist of a traditional barbecue dinner that includes good stuff like chicken, ribs, hot links and potato salad. This will be Jackson’s first year at the event, which started on Crenshaw in 2005. Zelma’s has been open for five years on Florence Avenue near Denker.

“This is my spot,” ‘yelped’ a Zelma’s regular from Los Angeles.

“Great Fried Chicken Wings Special about $5 w/fries. You can add more wings for $1.50 each. Or you can get the dinner good Mac n Cheese, Collard Greens, Black Eyed Peas and Corn Bread Muffin…Ox Tails are delicious!! Dinners are about $12 w/ 2 sides.

“They have Burgers, Tacos, Fish, Spaghetti and great Peach Cobbler. You name it they have it! You can order in advance and it’ll be ready in about 15 min! It’s a nice clean spot and Zelma is friendly too! This is a window pick up spot. There are tables to sit outside if u want!”

Wrote another customer on, “With a warm host. BBQ so good… Melts in your mouth, I’ve tried everything on the menu :)”
