Taste of Soul: ‘R&H Bakery’
By Ashley Nash, Sentinel Intern
Published October 6, 2012

After over 20 years in sales, ‘R&H’ Bakery owner, Richard Houston became reacquainted with his true passion.

This will be Houston’s first time attending as well as vending at the upcoming, Taste of Soul Festival. When asked what he looked forward to the most, Houston anxiously expressed a genuine excitement for meeting new customers, fellow vendors as well as other people within the community.  Selling pound cakes flavored with years of experience, it doesn’t seem like Houston will struggle with drawing a crowd.

Graduating from a culinary program in 1993, Houston held on to his passion for cuisine as he entered the world of sales. After over 20 years in this field, He was reminded of his deepest zeal. He began cooking with his mother at the age of 10. Since then, Houston has continued to cook; inspired by the enjoyment on his customers’ faces when they taste his product.

Currently functioning out of a commercial kitchen, Houston aspires to establish his own location in the near future. He appreciates the help of the Sentinel staff in preparation for the event, looks forward to the experience and the chance to participate next year.
