Let’s pause and give thanks for dads, step dads, foster dads, godfathers and all manner of folks who have been fathering. Not only is a good time to honor dads, it is a good time to encourage some fellas who are being fine fathers and help some of us like me who could benefit from a timely reminder.  I have found a story in the Gospel of John that features a fine father.

Words of the Week – Something’s Gotta Give

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18 Remember wrestling?  Remember playing as kids and yielding when someone was too strong?  What was the exclamation? It was “I give.”  We said it when we were feeling as though we had had enough. These days, because of all that is going on in the world, with all of the wickedness in high places, many of us are feeling that something has gotta give; something has gotta shift; something has gotta break loose. Many of us are angry, worried and battling depression because of the hatefulness, hypocrisy and hell that we see on our screens everyday. Let’s

Words of the Week – Love In Spite of Failure

Scripture: John 21:15-22 Two weeks ago, there was a story in the news that garnered a lot of attention.  Rodeo Road was renamed Barack Obama Boulevard. Certainly, President Obama deserves every honor that we, as Americans, can give him, for he pressed past the winds of bigotry and ugly resistance and distinguished himself as a great leader and a role model. We know all about President Obama’s successes, yet we scarcely know about his failures.
