Nearly five dozen allegations of misconduct by Los Angeles Police Department officers during recent protests against police brutality are being investigated, and seven employees have been removed from field duty, the department announced today.

The Los Angeles Unified School District will open 60 “Grab & Go” food centers tomorrow to provide students with meals during the district’s coronavirus-prompted closure, while the governor warned that schools across the state may remain shuttered for the rest of the school year.
Beutner said the centers, which were expected to open Wednesday, will instead open on that day as “Grab and Go Food Centers,” 20 of which were already planned in addition to the 40 Family Resource Centers. The switch means a total of 60 Grab and Go centers will be available between 7 and 10 a.m. weekdays, beginning Wednesday, and each child will receive two meals.
Saying dramatic rises in coronavirus cases should be anticipated given increases in testing, Los Angeles County’s public health director announced 50 new cases of the illness today, bringing the county’s total to 144.
“In alignment with the city of Los Angeles’ activation of emergency operations related to COVID-19, effective immediately, all six Los Angeles Animal Services (LAAS) centers and the administrative office will be closed to the public through March 31, unless rescinded earlier or extended further,” staff announced Monday night. “Be assured that we will have staff available to feed, clean, and provide enrichment for the animals in our care. Our animal control officers will respond to emergency calls such as dangerous dogs, animal
cruelty, and humane calls.”
