L.A. County Gathering Additional Data on COVID-19 Impact by Race, Ethnicity

“The fact that many communities of color fare poorly in health outcomes, and are more susceptible to COVID-19, is not an accident,” Solis said. “Decades of institutional racism have made our communities more vulnerable, so we must consider this reality in our policy solutions. We need our public health experts to keep robust data collection on COVID-19 patients to ensure resources are distributed equitably to high-need areas.”

Lack of Approvals Means LAUSD Family Resource Centers Will Be Food Centers

Beutner said the centers, which were expected to open Wednesday, will instead open on that day as “Grab and Go Food Centers,” 20 of which were already planned in addition to the 40 Family Resource Centers. The switch means a total of 60 Grab and Go centers will be available between 7 and 10 a.m. weekdays, beginning Wednesday, and each child will receive two meals.

Animal Shelters Closed Across L.A. County

“In alignment with the city of Los Angeles’ activation of emergency operations related to COVID-19, effective immediately, all six Los Angeles Animal Services (LAAS) centers and the administrative office will be closed to the public through March 31, unless rescinded earlier or extended further,” staff announced Monday night. “Be assured that we will have staff available to feed, clean, and provide enrichment for the animals in our care. Our animal control officers will respond to emergency calls such as dangerous dogs, animal
cruelty, and humane calls.”

Hundreds of Caregivers March for Better Pay
