Words of the Week – The Reason for the Season

  This season, sisters and brothers, is not just one of fun, food and fellowship. It is not just one of parties, gifts, and toys. This season is the season of great joy. This was the prophetic pronouncement made by the angel of the Lord that ancient night to the shepherds; “I bring you good tidings of great joy.” It was a pronouncement worth singing, shouting and dancing about. This joy by which the shepherds were apprehended that night wasn’t just for them, this pronouncement of great joy was for all people. The joy of this season is for everybody.

The Watts Christmas Parade

Dec. 2 The Watts Christmas Parade returns Saturday, December 2, to usher in the holiday season. With legendary Watts raised singing group “The Sylvers” serving as Grand Marshall, the procession starts at 12 noon in front of the Watts Labor Community Action Center (WLCAC) 10950 S. Central Ave., proceeds down Central and ends at Markham Middle School, 104th and Grandee. The Grandstand is setup in front of Grant AME Church on 104th and Central Avenue. Spectacular Annual Tree Lighting at Union Station

Nov. 30 Union Station ushers in the holiday season on Thursday, November 30, at the Annual Tree Lighting under the stars on the station’s South Patio, featuring an elaborate new holiday light display. For the first time in the station’s history, a massive Christmas wreath, measuring 20 feet in diameter and weighing nearly 800 pounds, has been raised atop the iconic clock tower. The historic station has been transforms into a winter wonderland with thousands of glistening lights and dancing snowflakes surrounding a towering all white Christmas tree.
