For the third consecutive year, Pastor Michael Eagle will present the Student Ministers Preaching Series highlighting the ‘Seven Last Words of Christ.’ The popular service, which features promising new clergy, takes place on Palm Sunday, April 17, at 2:30 p.m., at St. Mark A.M.E. Church, 12923 Avalon Boulevard in Los Angeles.

“I am looking for the public to come out and support these future preachers, both of males and females. You will hear different perspectives and learn what God is putting into the lives of these young people in the ministry,” said Pastor Eagle.

Each minister will deliver a 12-minute message on the last sayings of Christ. Rev. Marina Gordon of Bethel A.M.E. Church will preach Word 1 from Luke 23: 34; Sis. Debbie West-Jones of First A.M.E. Church – Pasadena will speak on Word 2 from Luke 23:42-43; and Bro. Ron Thomas of Ward A.M.E. Church will expound on Word 3 from John 19:25-26.

Sis. Vera Bagneris of New Philadelphia A.M.E. Church will address Word 4 from Matthew 27:46; Rev. Michael Greene of Price Chapel A.M.E. Church will focus on Word 5 from John 19:28; Sis. Linda Eaton of Ward A.M.E. Church will take up Word 6 from John 19:30 and Rev. Don Wallace of Price Chapel A.M.E. Church will conclude with Word 7 from Luke 23: 46.

Pastor Eagle said the annual service is presented to help students in fulfilling their calling. “People have to have an opportunity to preach and to find their own preaching voice; otherwise, they’ll wind up sounding like someone else. You have to preach what the Lord put on your heart, you have to meditate, you have to study, and you have to do the research. Not get it off the Internet or get some sermon you heard somebody else preach.”

He added, “I believe the community, as well as family and friends, will be uplifted and inspired as they listen to these student ministers and I hope everyone will attend.”
