South L.A.’s “Peace & Unity Tree”

Councilmember Bernard C. Parks of the 8th District, along with the Department of Recreation and Parks, Department of Water and Power, Leimert Park Business Improvement District and the Leimert Park Merchants Association launched the holiday season with the fifth annual lighting of South L.A.'s "Peace and Unity Tree" this week.

Founded by Parks' wife, Bobbie, in 2003, this year's lighting marked a special change for the festival. In keeping with the city's goal of becoming the "greenest City in the US," Councilmember Parks and the LADWP are proud to announce that the entire festival lighting has been converted to energy-saving LED light bulbs.

The "Peace and Unity Tree" is the center of South L.A.'s holiday activities. Events will be held around the tree during the entire holiday season, including Councilmember Parks' 6th Annual Winter Wonderland & Toy Giveaway (Saturday, December 13 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.) where each year thousands of gifts are given to needy families.
