Sources say Chris Paul to the Lakers
By Associated Press
Published December 8, 2011

Reports are that All Star point guard Chris Paul, who is known as the best point guard in the league by many, has been traded to the Lakers.  Reports say that Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol will be shipped out as part of the trade.  Photo by Jeff Lewis

A person familiar with the negotiations says the framework of a three-team trade is in place to send Hornets All-Star guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Houston Rockets are the other team involved, the person told The Associated Press Thursday on condition of anonymity because the deal was not finalized.

The person says details of the trade were still being worked out Thursday evening and it was not immediately clear which other players were involved.

Paul can opt out of his current contract with New Orleans after this season, and the Hornets have been fielding trade offers in an effort to acquire new players for the star guard rather than letting him walk in free agency.

Paul averaged 15.8 points and 9.8 assists last season.

****Update. The deal has hit a snag.  The NBA owns the Hornets, and it appears that a group of owners are trying to get commissioner David Stern to pull the plug on the deal.
