On March 24, the 2nd Annual Shalom Sunday was held at the Pathways to Home Shelter honoring the late Dr. Billy G. Ingram.  Shalom Sunday was created by Solombra Ingram, CEO and founder of I’m Every Woman Inc., in remembrance of her late husband, Dr. Billy Ingram, and benefitted the 450 men and women of the Pathways to Home Shelter.

Hosted by Verdine White of classic R&B group, Earth Wind and Fire, and Mrs. Ingram, workers from Volunteers of America Greater Los Angeles were critical in making the Sunday’s event a success.

In an effort to make the homeless and disenfranchised residents feel like celebrities, and hopefully seek out better lives, a red carpet was laid accompanied by actual celebrity photographers including Arnold Turner, Associated Press photographer;  Malcolm Ali, former Wire Image photographer and Valerie Goodloe, former Johnson Publications (Ebony and Jet magazines) photographer.

Residents were treated to medical care including blood pressure checkups, grooming by Design Studio 27 and a seven-course meal by Delights by Lionel Catering Services.

Pastor Michael Jenkins of Breath of Life SDA Church in Inglewood led the worship and Faith Martin moved the crowd with a rousing praise dance.  Residents also enjoyed musical selections by entertainers Tim Johnson, Jr.; keyboardist Don Wyatt, and vocalists Angela Coleman and Howard Hewitt.

Hewitt’s performance of ‘For the Love of You’ prompted the audience to sing along with him.  U.S. Congresswoman Karen Bass and California State Senator Curren Price also made special appearances .

Pathways to Home Shelter is located in downtown Los Angeles near South Broadway Boulevard and 38th Streets.  For more information on Shalom Sunday, email rozstevenson@aol.com.  To see more images from the 2nd Annual Shalom Sunday event visit CoverUpPhotos.com.
