“Can we do this? I can’t here you…can we do this? Can we do this?! Yes we can, yes we must, yes we will,” is what First Lady Michelle Obama had to say at the California Vote 2010 Fundraiser for California Senator Barbara Boxer’s campaign held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

The California Vote 2010 is in full swing as Obama, Second Lady, Dr. Jill Biden and Boxer rallied the people to vote and make a change. The theatre was packed with 1,000 guests ready to hear the call of the powerful trio. Biden gave a powerful speech about the power and importance of education and her feelings about Boxer.

“It’s no surprise, of all the accomplishments of this administration, I am most proud of our commitment to education,” said Biden. “We need strong, smart, courageous leaders like Barbara Boxer.” Biden happily introduced Boxer as a long time friend and the candidate worthy of re-election.

“It makes me so proud to be your United States Senator and with your help, I’m going to stay right there fighting for you,” said Boxer. She expressed her thanks to Biden and Obama for their support and endorsements. She also thanked the audience for their continued support.

“I want to start by thanking you from the bottom of my heart for standing with me for so long…many of you. Especially, in this, [the] toughest campaign I have ever faced. I will tell you this, your standing with me means that I will be able to stand and continue fighting for the people of California.”

“As we all know, when it comes to being a champion for California’s families, there is no one who fights harder. There’s no one who cares more deeply than our friend, Barbara Boxer,” said Obama. The First Lady spoke of the long list of accomplishments that Boxer has made as Senator for California. “I am so proud, so very proud to be here supporting her.” Obama also rallied for her husband, President Obama and the vote.

“I put my husband out there, you have got to have his back,” said Obama to rousing roar of support. She charged the crowd with words of support, energy and encouragement. Obama asked that all of California get out and vote now and in the future. “Leave here today, go vote,” said Obama. “You can’t just vote once and then hope for change to happen. You got to tell them they have to vote every time.”

The fundraiser boasted a large crowd of supporters with tickets for the event being $100. Guests enjoyed a beautiful and uplifting performance from R&B artist and songwriter, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. According to the Boxer campaign, they expected to raise $150,000. All the proceeds will to the Boxer Campaign and Democratic National Committee.

Boxer is the junior California for Senator and a member of the Democratic Party. She  is the first female chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee. Boxer was also chosen as chair of the Select Committee on Ethics, making her the only Senator to be over two committees at the same time.

She has the record for having the most popular votes statewide during an election in California. Boxer currently holds the position of Chief Deputy Whip of the Democratic Majority and is now running for re-election against a formidable opponent. She needs “our” support.
