Coming into the first league match against host Bishop Montgomery, Serra had one loss this season.  It was an unforgotten preseason tournament defeat at the hands of Bishop, 55-45

This time around Serra’s defensive scheme disrupted Bishop’s offense just enough to turn the Cavalier’s previous disappointment into a one game lead in the Del Rey league.  Serra walked away with a 51-47 victory.

Serra Coach, Dwan Hurt said, “The loss made us better.  Since then we’ve been on a run. They have very good ball movement, so we couldn’t allow them to do what they want.”

After the early season defeat Serra went on an 11 game winning streak, which included the win against Bishop the second time around.

Serra has since lost to Price, the defending State champions, by only two points at the Cochran Classic.  Their record now sits at 17-2.

The next close encounter, and not necessarily the last, will take place at Serra on February 1.  The league’s big two also are expected to have at least one more meeting in the post season.
