Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and the Senate Rules Committee have announced their appointment of Senator Roderick D. Wright (D – Inglewood) to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission.

Wright was sworn in last week to serve on the Commission which was formed in 1945. Exposition Park is jointly owned by the State of California, the County of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles. Board members are drawn from the three ownership interests.

"Exposition Park contains diverse historical, cultural, and recreational facilities of statewide significance," said Sen. Wright. "I will work to ensure there is a strong relationship between all of the entities and that they function as a unit to keep business at Exposition Park both profitable and a source of cultural enrichment."

The L.A. Memorial Coliseum is located in Exposition Park and is home to the University of Southern California Trojan football team. The Park is also home to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the California Science Center and the California African-American Museum.

The Senate Rules also announced its appointment of Senator Wright to chair the Select Committee on California's Horse Racing Industry through November, 2010.

Sen. Wright chairs the powerful Governmental Organization Committee which oversees horseracing public gaming, the National Guard, alcoholic beverages, management of public safety emergencies and disaster response, and legislation permitting the use of state-controlled lands.
