Sen. Wright to Honor Teen Pilot

Two pioneering African American teenage pilots from Compton, who learned how to fly at a Los Angeles inner city aeronautical program, will fly to Sacramento on Monday, August 17th where Senator Roderick D. Wright will present them with Resolutions on the Senate Floor at noon.

In late June and July, 15 year-old Kimberly Anyadike became the youngest African American female to pilot an airplane across the country and back.  Last year her 17 year-old sister, Kelly Anyadike made her way into the Guinness Book of World Records on her 16th birthday by being the youngest African-American female to solo in four different fixed-wing aircraft on the same day.

Both young ladies were taught to fly by Robin Petgrave, founder and director of Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum (TAM). Mr. Petgrave will also accept a Senate resolution on behalf of the museum, which was founded in 1997 when Mr. Petgrave, a successful entrepreneur, decided to focus his attention on at-risk inner city youth.

Levi Thornhill, a pilot with the famous Tuskegee Airmen, will also fly to Sacramento with the young pilots and their instructor.
