The Lay Organization of Second AME Church of Los Angeles will host Lay Witness Sunday on Oct. 13, at 10 a.m., in the edifice located at 5500 S. Hoover St., in Los Angeles.
The theme for the service is “Proclaiming Lay Witness” and the speaker will be Dr. Dorothy Vails-Weber, immediate past president of the Southern California Conference Lay Organization, said Pastor Carolyn Baskin-Bell.
“We invite the community join us in celebrating the outstanding work of our Lay Organization and hear an inspiring message by Dr. Vails-Weber,” said Baskin-Bell. “Under the leadership of President Geneva McKinney, they develop programs and training to help our members grow in their walk with Christ.”
Vails-Weber has served the Lay Organization of the African Methodist Episcopal Church on the local, episcopal district and connectional levels for more than 35 years. She was trained as a Christian educator at the Interdenominational Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia, and serves the AME church in many capacities.
A distinguished counseling psychologist with over 45 years of experience in higher education, Vails-Weber has held positions as university dean, faculty member and director of training and development on the college level and worked at San Diego State University for over 30 years.
The Lay Organization is the recognized auxiliary in the African Methodist Episcopal Church for non-clergy members, under the unified theme “Laity Walking Humbly With God to Do Justice and To Love Kindness”, based on the Bible verse Micah 6:8.
