Sandella’s Flatbread Café (Downtown L.A.) Partners with Urban Compass to Help Urban Youth

Restaurant to raise awareness, donations for organization dedicated to providing education, mentoring and vision to urban youth of Los Angeles

Los Angeles – Sandella’s Flatbread Café wants to give back to our urban youth!  The Sandella’s Flatbread Café at 514 W. 7th Street in Downtown Los Angeles is joining forces with Urban Compass to support the effort to provide the urban youth of our city with education, mentorship and positive alternatives to violence, crime and poverty.  On September 24, 2009, Sandella’s Flatbread Café, Downtown L.A., will be holding their Grand Opening from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Guests of the Sandella’s Flatbread Café in Downtown Los Angeles can do their part to help these at-risk youth simply by coming in to eat.  A portion of the proceeds from every meal purchased at Sandella’s Flatbread Café on this day will go to assist Urban Compass in their endeavor to combat poverty and violence, and give our urban youth the tools to envision a positive and rewarding future.

”The youth of our city deserve every chance we can give them to succeed,” said Robin Kirksey, co-owner of Sandella’s Flatbread Café, Downtown Los Angeles.  “Sandella’s is proud to do what we can to support Urban Compass and their efforts to enrich the lives our youth.”

Urban Compass provides stability and consistency to these youth by giving them a place where they can go to get help with their homework, encouragement to pursue their goals, and guidance to reach those goals.  Currently Urban Compass is centered in Watts but their model was created to be replicated in diverse communities across Southern California and the nation.

Sandella’s is an upscale, casual café serving premium quality, health-conscious and great tasting food served on Sandella’s own brick oven flatbread. They have a variety of offerings including grilled flatbreads, sandwiches, paninis, quesadillas, & salads.  Sandella’s Flatbread Café was awarded the Fast Casual Top 100 Movers & Shakers Award in 2008, was touted as being one of the fastest growing food concepts in the U.S., and is listed in the Weight Watchers Point Guide.  For more information about Sandella’s Downtown L.A., visit

Urban Compass was formed in partnership with Verbum Dei High School and 112th Street Elementary School to combat poverty and violence and make a difference in the lives of children in Watts.  By providing after school and summer programs, tutoring, enrichment activities and field trips to keep the children engaged in a positive learning experience, Urban Compass provides an environment that challenges our young people to envision a rewarding future.  For more information about Urban Compass, visit
