Several years ago Quinton Perry, a well-known concert promoter from Detroit, Michigan, invited us to see a young man he was working with. He performed at the Roxy on Sunset Blvd. He performed wearing a diaper and appeared to be very talented. Quinton told me that he was going to be bigger than buttermilk one day. The young man was Prince and, Quinton was right

Seeing Prince at the Forum last week was unforgettable. His performance was electrifying and exciting. Eighteen thousand (18,000) people stood up for most of the performance. Opening the show was Mint Condition. They were excellent. Each night a different artist opened the show. During the show, Prince sat down at his purple piano and started playing. All of a sudden-Alicia Keys came on stage and sung one number. If you EVER have the opportunity to see Prince please do-it will be an evening you will never forget. He is excellent!

New York Magazine said it best-when they said and I quote “This guy is possibly the biggest old-school massive, hyper charismatic, everyone’s-amazed-by him pop star still going, and he carries with him this whole legacy of funk and soul that you’re unlikely to find embodied anywhere else quite so spectacularly.”

And now for some additional news: Radio and TV personality, Steve Harvey is getting ready for his Annual Hoodie Awards to be held in Las Vegas, August 12th.

Entertainment for the awards and official white party (everyone in attendance will be wearing white) will be Frankie Beverly and Maze, along with Faith Evans. Vocalist Kem has a new woman’s fragrance in the works, tentatively called Secure.

I bet Tyler Perry will have his own TV Network very soon. He definitely has another hit with “Madea’s Big Happy Family.” Aretha Franklin’s first public concert since her recent illness will be May 19th at the Chicago Theatre.

John Legend, performing with Sade when she tours the U.S. this Summer.
Platinum selling gospel duo Mary, Mary (Sisters Erica and Tina Campbell) have a lot to be excited about-a new CD titled “Something Big” and a joint U.S. tour with BeBe and CeCe Winans.

Did you know Rashida Jones, one of the stars on the NBC sitcom, Park’s and Recreation, is the daughter of actress Peggy Lipton and composer/producer/musician Quincy Jones? Did you know that vocalist Monica recently married L.A. Laker Shannon Brown?

Congratulations to Lalla Ali and husband Curtis Conway on the arrival of their new baby girl, Syndey. They have a 2 year old son, Curtis, Jr. Alicia Keys shooting a film for the Lifetime Network about breast cancer and its impact on young people’s life. Beyonce’, with husband Jay-Z in Paris, France staying in a $20,000 a night suite and working on her next album scheduled to be released in June. Legendary vocalist Linda Hopkins, who turned 86 years young this year, is said to be feeling good after being a little under the weather.

The Oprah Winfrey show finale is going to be huge. Oprah will say goodbye after 25 years. May 23rd and 24th will feature, to name a few-Usher, Tyler Perry, Jerry Seinfeld, Mary J. Blige, Beyonce’, Jamie Foxx, and Patti LaBelle.

Until next time-“No one is in charge of your happiness except you. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lesson you learn will last a lifetime.”
