Resolving to Stand Up to Diabetes

With the help of three people, I was able to stand up to diabetes.

Dr. Jacqueline Hanna, Orthopedic Surgeon, made a very difficult situation manageable and improved my quality of life.

Joseph Alexander, Prosthesis Designer, is a double amputee who designed my limb with precision and care.

Dr. Charles Gyden, Physical Therapist, gave me the inner strength to believe that I would not fall.

To maintain my diabetes, I worked with physicians to develop a plan to operate at my best level. Also, I believed God at His word in Philippians 1:6, “He who began a new work in me would see it to completion!” I am still amazed by His grace and mercy!

I am maintaining my diabetes by:

  • Checking my blood sugar before each meal and before I go to bed at night.
  • Exercising three times a week for thirty minutes to an hour.
  • Eating in moderation with plenty of protein and leafy green vegetables. I avoid red meat, limit carbohydrates and try to drink a gallon of water each day.
  • Visiting my doctor regularly because that it is important to catch complications before they become obtrusive.
  • Checking my feet for sores, bruises, swelling or contusions. A sore or bruise could mean that I am retaining fluids or lead to more serious complications.

With simple changes like those above, I am happier, healthier, and standing on His promises. God is still in the blessing business! Be encouraged!
