Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver, II, chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus has endorsed Laura Richardson for California’s 44th Congressional District.

“As Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, it’s critical that I reiterate how important it is for us to hold on to every seat we have, and if possible, to expand the number of African-Americans in Congress,” said Rep. Cleaver.

“Unfortunately there are still issues that are racial, and I don’t know how you solve a problem if you exclude race. We just had to renew the Voting Rights Act four years ago and still had 35 no votes. Laura Richardson is a person who over the years has stood up for those who could not stand up for themselves, and with her leadership in the community she represents and serves, I believe she will continue to do so.”

Laura also is endorsed by the Congressional Black Caucus as a whole as well as the California Legislative Black Caucus.

California’s new 44th Congressional District includes the cities and communities of Compton, Carson, Watts, North Long Beach, Lynwood, South Gate, Walnut Park, Wilmington, and San Pedro.
