Pullen-Miles Becomes Lawndale’s first Black Mayor
By Staff and Wire Report
Published April 24, 2014

Three-term Lawndale City Councilman Robert Pullen-Miles was elected as that city’s first Black mayor on Tuesday April 8 with over 50 percent of the vote.  Now, he informed residents, he is ready to take Lawndale in a “new direction.”  His focus will be economic development, pushing for new businesses and making the city more appealing to visitors.

“Without the residents trusting me, this wouldn’t have happened,” said Pullen-Miles. “They believed Lawndale can do bigger and better and become even more the ‘Heart of the South Bay.’ ”
