Last weekend marked the 9th Annual Sisters In Ministry (SIM) Prayer Breakfast and Torch Awards, and what a celebration it was!
The Rev. Dr. Sonja R. Dawson, SIM founder and executive director, welcomed nearly 300 women to the morning celebration at the Grand Event Center in Long Beach where the audience enjoyed prayer, praise and a wonderful meal.
Three local women were honored. They were Assistant Pastor Natalie K. Owens of Faith Inspirational Baptist Church in Compton, the Rev. Stephanie Butler Adams of Spirit of Praise Sacred Arts Institute International in Long Beach, and Sentinel Religion Editor Cora Jackson-Fossett. Each spoke a word of encouragement into the lives of all in attendance.
Essie B. Milligan, a surprise Torch Award recipient and a faithful member of SIM, received heartfelt and exuberant congratulations from her family and friends.
If that were not enough to fill everyone’s hearts and minds, there was a second surprise announcement of two new board members who will now help carry the torch of women faithfully serving and reflecting the program’s theme, ‘Women Praying Through Tedious Times.’
The ladies were out in array with hearts bent on prayer, praise and worship! With a call to shore one another up, to unify and to help build up one another, the guests left charged and ready to serve with fervor.
Missed out this year? No worries, Sisters In Ministry have more events planned including their annual Union Rescue Mission Street Revival on October 4.
