An uplifting salute to men and fathers takes place on Sunday, June 20, during the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services at People’s Independent Church of Christ located at 5856 West Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Annual Men’s Day, hosted by the Samaritan Men’s Ministry, will celebrate the contributions of African American males to both the community and kingdom building, according to Bishop Craig A. Worsham, senior pastor.

“There are countless outstanding Christian men lending their time and talents to the church and communities throughout the L.A. area.  We invite the public to come out and witness some of these men in action,” said Bishop Worsham.

“We want to recognize their achievements and encourage them to continue in their walk with the Lord,” he added.  The Men’s Choir will sing selections under the direction of Keith Nevels.  Also, the Rev. Dr. Cecil L. ‘Chip’ Murray will preach at the 11 a.m. worship.

The Rev. Murray served 27 years as pastor of First A.M.E., an 18,000+ congregation, before retiring in 2004.  The following year, he joined the University of Southern California and became the holder of the John R. Tansey Chair at the Center for Religion and Civic Culture at U.S.C.

Dr. Murray holds a doctorate from Claremont School of Theology and is widely considered a senior statesman in the local and national African American community.
