Finding scriptural support for decisions in life can be challenging, but a new workshop hopes to bring clarity to those with questions.

The “Grown Women – Real Talk” session will provide a wealth biblical insight during the event set for Saturday, July 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Olivet Lutheran Church, 2606 W. Imperial Highway in Hawthorne.

According to Deacon Tempie Beaman, “This exciting and heartfelt session ‘is as real as it gets’ as the truths of scripture are aligned with the circumstances of our daily lives.  This is the kind of gathering where you can ask personal questions about relationships, family, friends and finances.”

Open to women, ages 17 and up, the event is sponsored by the African Descent Lutheran Association – L.A. Chapter. The guest speaker will be the Rev. La’Tresa Jester, Arizona State Bishop and pastor of Gideon Full Gospel Baptist Church in Tucson, Arizona.

“This session allows you to privately ask those probing and annoying questions, receive feedback and if you desire, and have personal time alone with Pastor Jester,” added Beaman. “Tell a friend or bring your women friends because this is, indeed, for us ladies!”

The free program will include the “Suicide Prevention 101 Workshop” from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Rev. Tracy Williams,  MSW, and pastor of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bellflower, will be the facilitator.

Beaman described the rate of suicide as “an often staggering, yet misunderstood, reality within our communities” Frequent victims include recent combat veterans, bullied students and young adults disillusioned with life.

“This workshop will offer ideas and suggestions in helping us be our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper more profoundly and purposefully,” she said.
