President Obama has done what his predecessors couldn’t—he got us healthcare!

In what has been one of the greatest struggles in U.S. history for people everywhere, the resolution has finally become a reality—healthcare for everybody! In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court has decided to uphold President Obama’s healthcare law.

The ruling preserves the law’s “individual mandate,” which will have most Americans receive health insurance by 2014 or pay a tax. The law caused debate amongst many over its infringement on citizens. The mandated tax imposed on those who do not acquire healthcare gave many pause but ultimately the majority ruled in favor of it.

President Obama has stated that this is a win for the people. This is a fight that has been on the top of the president’s list since he took office. Obama’s campaign platform has been the embodiment of progression and change.  The past months have seen Obama address three of the biggest issue on his plate with same-sex marriage, immigration—and now the trinity is complete with healthcare.

“The highest court in the land has now spoken. We will continue to implement this law and we’ll work together to improve on it where we can,” Obama stated at the White House.

“What we won’t do – what the country can’t afford to do – is re-fight the political battles of two years ago or go back to the way things were. With today’s announcement, it’s time for us to move forward.”

Known also as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the healthcare law is the biggest overhaul of the healthcare system since the 1960’s. It was signed by President Obama in March of 2010.
