Four men convicted of soliciting prostitutes in Oakland, Cali., had their photos blurred on a billboard in 2005 as part of a “shaming web wall of pimps”. The most recent arrest was of 37-year-old Rufus McNeely of Oakland, who was accused of luring a 16-year-old girl from her home in Oakland and had the teen work as a prostitute in Los Angeles and two other counties (photo Ben Margot/ Associated Press)

A man who lured a 16-year-old girl from her home in Oakland and had the teen work as a prostitute in Los Angeles and two other counties was convicted last Thursday of human trafficking and other charges. Jurors deliberated less than three hours before finding Rufus McNeely, 37, of Oakland, guilty of human trafficking of a minor for a sex act, pandering by procuring a minor over 16 and pimping, said Deputy District Attorney Michael Matoba. McNeely is facing up to 30 years to life in state prison, with sentencing set Sept. 17, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

McNeely met the teenager last September and had her work as a prostitute in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Ventura counties as they drove through California, the prosecutor said. The girl called police, with McNeely being arrested last Oct. 2 following a sting operation involving several law enforcement agencies. At the time of his arrest, McNeely was under investigation for pimping a woman in El Monte in 2012 and he was subsequently charged with the pimping count in connection with that woman as a result of new evidence and his involvement with the teenage girl, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
