Rev. Dr. E. Wayne Gaddis

The 132nd Annual Session of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America (NMBCA) convenes on September 3 to September 7, at the Sheraton Gateway LAX Hotel, 6100 West Century Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Dr. E. Wayne Gaddis, Dr. Lovely Haynes, Dr. Melvin V. Wade, Sr., and the California Baptist State Convention will serve as co-hosts.

“We extend a warm invitation to the entire Southern California community to share in this week of inspiration, education and spiritual renewal,” said Dr. Gaddis.

The NMBCA is one of the largest religious bodies among African American Baptists in the nation.  The president, Dr. C. C. Robertson, passed away on July 2, 2012; the vice president at-large, Dr. Nehemiah Davis, will preside over the upcoming convention and a new president will be elected during the Los Angeles meeting.  The late Dr. S. M. Lockridge, Dr. Willie T. Snead, Sr., and Dr. Wade have served as president in past years.

The weeklong convention includes activities during the day and evenings.  Also, the Host Committee will sponsor late night services at 9:45 p.m.

On Monday, September 3, at 7 p.m., NMBCA outreach boards and ministries will hold a special service with Pastor Denny Davis of St. John Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, TX, as the keynote speaker.

The Welcome Night Musical on Tuesday at 7 p.m., will feature the Rev. Harold Pittman directing a 175-voice choir.  Tickets are $10.  Pastor Wade will preach at the Late Night Service on Tuesday.

On Wednesday at 7 p.m., the speaker will be Pastor Fleetwood Irving of the Second Baptist Church of Vallejo.  Also, a special Youth Service will be held in the Gateway Room.  Dr. Lester Gillespie of San Antonio, TX, will be the Late Night Service speaker on Wednesday.

Outstanding musical guests will appear during each service and many exhibitors will be on hand offering a wide variety of products and services.
