This year’s presidential campaign is perhaps the most important in our lifetime. Senator Obama’s call for real change in government has echoed all across America. In line with his mission, on Saturday, September 13th, a panel of young political leaders discussed the need for local political change, as well as the challenges, solutions and opportunities inherent in the redevelopment of Southern California’s urban enclaves.
Hosted at urban X marketing’s young professional mixer the Urban Renaissance at Parc, the discussion “New Government: A Dialogue with the Next Generation of Political Leaders” was held in the courtyard of Baldwin Hills’ newest condominium development, Bedford Parc and Bedford Promenade, located at 3740 Santa Rosalia Drive.
The panel of new generation political leaders included: Councilman Isadore Hall, III, (4th Council District, City of Compton); Councilman Mike A. Gipson (Mayor Pro Tem, City of Carson); Councilwoman Jacque Robinson (1st Council District, City of Pasadena); Angela Reddock, (Board Trustee, Los Angeles Community College District); and Shannon Lawrence (Candidate for City Council, City of Gardena). Guests were welcomed by Starlett Quarles, President of urban X marketing, while the panel was moderated by Robert Cole, the CA State Director of African American Outreach, Obama for America.
More than 100 young professionals, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and federal and state officials were in attendance; including Congresswoman Laura Richardson, of the 37th District of California and Assemblyman Curren Price, of the 51st Assembly District.
“The catalyst for this event was to inspire young professionals to get more involved in our local political movement. While so many of us are engaged in Obama’s national platform, I believe it’s just as important for us to also be aware of what’s happening in our own backyards,” said Starlett Quarles President of urban X marketing. “We know that change needs to occur, and in order for that to happen, I believe it’s going to take the extraordinary vision and commitment from a generation ready to accept the charge and take the lead. One generation in particular is our next generation of civic and political leaders.”
