Highlighting the importance of recognizing African-American achievements during Black History Month, New Antioch Church of God in Christ will celebrate this historical movement on Sunday, February 23, at the 11 a.m. worship service.

The annual celebration raises awareness of African-American History and presents the African-American Achievement Award to individuals whose excellence in leadership makes a significant impact in the church and community.

The 2014 recipients are Mrs. Honey Butler-Bryant, Mrs. Barbara Cunningham, Mrs. Debra Dorris and Mr. Maurice Walker. They four work in the areas of legal secretary, author/mentor, business and probation officer.

“This is a special occasion for two reasons.  We have the opportunity to celebrate African-American history and a chance to remember the contributions that African-Americans have made toward building our nation,” said Superintendent Jeffrey M. Lewis, pastor.

“In addition, we will celebrate leaders at our local church who have been successful and accomplished in their prospective careers.”

Attorney Uleses Henderson Jr., Chief Counsel of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) and a member of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ, will deliver the keynote address.  COGIC is a Pentecostal Holiness Christian denomination with nearly five million members throughout the world.

“We invite the entire community to attend this amazing African-American Celebration Worship Service.  The coordinator for this event is Dr. Eddye Rambo,” added Superintendent Lewis.

New Antioch is located at 7826 South Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles. For information, call (323) 778-7965 or visit Superintendent Lewis provides live expository teaching on Sundays at 11 a.m. and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at
