Honoring Community Leaders – Reaching Out, Embracing Our Communities

Saturday, August 3, will be an afternoon of delectable dishes, fabulous friends, highly esteemed honorees and guests; as the National Congress of Black Women, Inc., Los Angeles Chapter hosts the 2013 Annual Awards Luncheon.  The event begins at 11 AM at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles, 506 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles. The NCBW, Los Angeles Chapter, takes pride in “Reaching Out, Embracing Our Communities”  

For twenty-nine years, the National Congress of Black Women, Incorporated has operated nationally and internationally as a nonprofit 501(c) (3). In 2009, the Los Angeles Chapter was formed, joining the fight for improvement of communities through educational, political, economic and cultural development of African American women and their families.  Lena L. Kennedy, President/CEO, LLKennedy and Associates and Carla Thomas, D.D.S., The Smile Studio Dental Clinic, are being recognized for their commitment to “Reaching Out, Embracing Our Communities.” Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell, Director, White House Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, U.S. Department of Education is the keynote speaker; Dr. E. Faye Williams, Esq., National Chair and Justina Mutale, Founder and CEO, of the multi-award winning global organization, Positive Runway: Global Catwalk to Stop the Spread, a worldwide HIV/AIDS response campaign, will bring Greetings. Ms. Mutale is bringing greetings from Africa; with Juanita Palacios-Sims, Founder and President, International Society of Black Latinos, as the Mistress of Ceremonies.


On the afternoon of August 3rd, the ladies of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Congress of Black Women, Inc., their honored guests, and community supporters are gathering to celebrate the successes of the past while fundraising in preparation for the challenges of the future. There will be opportunities to visit the “Market Place” to shop from hand -selected vendors and auction items; meet and mingle with the honorees and sponsors; enjoy Comedian, Kathy Westfield and Recording Artist, Abraham McDonald!
