A homemade bomb left in a bag at a busy Nairobi mall went off Monday June 4, leaving 30 people injured and a lot of destruction and chaos. This comes after Kenya’s invasion of Somalia in a effort to combat Somalia’s rebel militia Al Shabab.

In retaliation, the insurgents have conducted random grenade attacks in crowded areas and have threatened to blow up skyscrapers in the city. Prime Minister Raila Odinga was quick to term it a “terrorist attack.” No one claimed responsibility.

The Nation, newspaper of Nairobi, reported that detectives had been monitoring the movements of the suspects but lost them when theyy changed sim cards six days before the explosion on Moi Ave.

Meanwhile, in Mombasa, a Muslim lobby group condemned the attack. On Tuesday, American detectives joined the hunt for the suspects. “For Nairobi and parts of the country to be safe, we will need the assistance of the FBI and even the Scotland Yard. We are determined to wipe out the terrorists,” said Internal Security assistant minister Orwa Ojode.
