As part of their ongoing commitment to help hurting people, and serve the poor, members and friends of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church (MSMBC) donned their favorite MSMBC logo gear, and hit the streets to distribute food baskets this past Thanksgiving season.

A vision of Pastor-Teacher George E. Hurtt for his members to do more for others, the ministry is growing by leaps and bounds.  For the third consecutive year, MSMBC took on the Thanksgiving outreach with a vengeance, hitting an all-time high this year with over 4600 food items donated, feeding close to 1000 people.

Some 168 volunteers packed and delivered baskets for 212 families.  MSMBC purchased 200 turkeys and numerous gift cards were distributed as part of the outreach. Teams comprised of drivers and distributors made stops all over Los Angeles County, zigzagging from Santa Monica all the way to Long Beach.

The volunteers were met with sincere gratitude and appreciation. One happy partaker remarked “Your staff way very kind and warm.  I felt their gracious spirit and love.  I would love to come fellowship with the rest of Mount Sinai;” while another commented, “You all have a wonderful gift of giving to the needy and we greatly appreciate Mount Sinai.”

Giving to the needy is indeed a guiding principle for Mount Sinai.  With a weekly Soup Kitchen Bible Study supported by Sunday dollar donations from parishioners and a Galatians 6:10 Foundation, a mechanism for evangelistic outreach endeavors such as a 10-year commitment to help the people of Haiti following the region’s catastrophic earthquake a couple of years back ; MSMBC is taking its commitment to heart.

Mount Sinai, located at 3669 West 54th Street in Los Angeles, has Sunday services at 8 a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. Beginning January 6, there will be two Sunday services at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
