Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church (MSMBC) has done it again! For the fifth year running, Pastor George E. Hurtt and MSMBC volunteers rallied together for a successful “Make a Difference Day.”
The program provides Thanksgiving baskets, replete with all of the trimmings, to needy families. Church members contribute funds and donate food items for the baskets. Preparing for the Thanksgiving giveaway runs like a well-oiled machine, reminiscent of an automobile assembly line.
Volunteers flood Fellowship Hall to work at assigned stations to fill the food bags. The following day, they hit the pavement to deliver the baskets to families all across Los Angeles County.
This year, MSMBC received 4,361 donated food items, purchased 250 turkeys, 60-plus volunteers packed bags, 136 volunteers delivered the baskets, while 14 people provided administrative assistance. In all, 257 families were reached and 1,070 people were fed.
“Thank you all so much for the wonderful Thanksgiving basket. My cupboard is now full! This is beautiful and I’m so grateful. I’m sitting here now reading the book you enclosed, “The Story of God With Us,” and I will be visiting your church soon. God bless you all,” commented a grateful recipient.
Giving is a guiding principle for Mt. Sinai along with Galatians 6:10, “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
As Pastor Hurtt frequently affirms, giving is only possible because the Lord gives to us. This motto and unselfishness has helped grow “Make a Difference Day” by leaps and bounds.
Mount Sinai is located at 3669 West 54th Street in Los Angeles. Sunday worship services are held at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
