According to Pastor W. Monroe Campbell, “The entire community is invited to celebrate with us.  Our morning worship will commemorate the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“The afternoon service will feature a powerful message by the Rev. Dr. Walter Farmer of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church.”

Other guests at 4 p.m., will be Pastor L.A. Kessee and Bethany Baptist Church of West Los Angeles, Pastor Willie Davis, Jr., and Christian Unity Missionary Baptist Church, and Pastor Michael Gibson and Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church.

Organized in January 1948, Mount Gilead has been led by the Rev. Perry Jones, Sr., father of Pastor Perry Jones, Jr., of Messiah Baptist Church; the Rev. Earnest Cornel Johnson, who served 50 years; the Rev. Larry Morris. Pastor Campbell was installed in September 2001 as the spiritual leader.

“Throughout our 66 years, we have emphasized a Biblical message in the proclamation and teaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and correspondingly focused on evangelism, mission commitment and community involvement,” said Pastor Campbell.
