The best thing about MiMi’s products, according to MiMi, is that they make up a “body care system with no chemical preservatives, no parabens and no synthetic fragrances.” The kiosk full of body butters, massage oils, bath soaps and more is located inside the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, just a few steps away from the food court. Customers are allowed to sample some of the products and get a sense of what MiMi’s is all about.

“Our intention is to promote good health, wholeness and well being through our products that cater to healing and revitalizing our customers,” said MiMi.

They do this, she said, with products for aromatherapy, body treatments and body finishes.

“The purpose of our product is to connect the user to simple ingredients,” said the owner.

MiMi began making skin care products in an effort to heal her young son’s eczema, she wrote on her website,

“As he got older, the medications prescribed by his dermatologist got stronger and stronger, eventually moving to steroids to help his severe skin disorder,” she explained.

“ I didn’t know much about steroids but I knew that they weren’t good for the body.  Besides, the medicine only provided a temporary relief. The eczema would return to another place on his body, and then more severe.”

MiMi was relieved of her job as a contractor for the Federal Government, a good thing since she was able to devote more time to helping her son.

“I began researching the causes and natural remedies for Eczema,” MiMi recalled.

“All the information I reviewed points to foods, food allergies, the environment, the soap we use, clothing detergent, whether we have pets or not, what type of clothing we put on our skin, and stress as key factors in fixing skin disorders.

“This is how I began my journey. This is how I started making natural and organic skin and hair products that provides moisture, free of the chemical laden products I once used. This was also the beginning of a new diet/lifestyle for my family and me.  I knew that in order to find a solution with Eczema, dry skin, dry hair, aging, overweight, and other ailments, we had to change not only what we put on our bodies, but what we put in our bodies as well.”
