A unique fundraiser to aid local and African ministries will be presented in the form of a Tom Thumb Wedding on Saturday, June 25, at 1 p.m., at Messiah Baptist Church, located at 4500 West Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles.
According to Pastor Perry Jones, the event is part of the church’s increased outreach to those less fortunate, both in Southern California and internationally. “Proceeds from this event will benefit four efforts underway in Orange County, Nigeria and Kenya. We invite all those seeking an enjoyable afternoon while helping a good cause to join us,” he said.
First Lady Pamela Jones and other members of the congregation are organizing assistance to the non-profit organizations. She shared, “These funds will assist the Arena of Destiny to complete construction of a facility for orphaned babies in Nigeria. Due to fighting between the Christians and Muslims, many infants are being literally thrown away in bushes. Rev. Jonathan and Rev. Lillian Anozie are rescuing the babies so that they will not die. They are building an orphanage and need help to finish.”
Also, funding is needed for the Providence Children’s Home in Kenya. “Rev. Stephen Githumbi, pastor of Community United Presbyterian Church, is raising money to build an orphanage for girls whose parents have died of AIDS in that country,” said Lady Jones.
The other agencies Messiah members are helping are Women of Vision, a volunteer ministry of World Vision that assists children living in poverty in the U.S., and the White House Restaurant in Orange County that donates free dinners every night to homeless children living in motels.
Lady Jones said, “These young people are doing their homework at the Boys and Girls Club in Orange County because they have no where to do their homework other than the bathroom in their motel room. Mr. Serato, owner of the restaurant, sends pasta to the Boys and Girls Club every night to feed the children.”
