Offering a holistic approach, Lifting The Veil Ministries seeks to provide spiritual, emotion and social enrichment to the South Bay community.

The new ministry, founded by Pastor Byron L. Smith, worships each Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and Wednesdays at 7 p.m., at the Doubletree Hotel, 2 Civic Plaza in Carson.

“Our main objective is to encourage people, from a spiritual, social and educational context, that the veil of ignorance of what they could not be can be lifted so they can see what they can be for Christ,” said the Rev. Smith.

“Our worship experience will help individuals that may come from emotional, psychological or spiritual depravity of encouragement to be inspired so that their light so shines that others will believe in the same God that we believe in,” he explained.

Pastor Smith’s energy, optimism and enthusiasm about his new venture may just be contagious.  Since the first service on December 7, 24 people have joined the ministry and Nysa Sheney has come aboard as the music director.

Expecting growth to continue, he said, “We’re hope to see people from all walks of life be a part of the ministry.  We plan a multi-cultural church that will meet the needs of all nationalities from different social and cultural backgrounds.  We’re looking to see a very diverse group of individuals finding their way in their faith.”

Diversity and faith reflect Pastor Smith’s background. Previously, he led several parishes in the C.M.E. Church for 17 years including Curry Temple C.M.E. in Compton. A native of Chicago, he earned a Bachelor’s degree at Chicago State University and Master of Divinity degree from Claremont School of Theology.

“Now, I am working on a second master’s from Argosy University where I’ll receive a degree in 2014 as a marriage family therapist. I’m also doing an internship at a Jewish rehab facility for men as a psychotherapist,” he shared.

His vast experience will be an asset as Lifting The Veil Ministries prepares for a busy agenda in 2014.   During January, the church will present the ‘Dream Keepers Workshop’ for children and youth.

“The seminar highlights the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and emphasizes the six principles of nonviolence to teach our children that education is far more important than violence and to have a strong desire for learning and life,” said Pastor Smith.  Also, the ‘Five Nights of Fire Revival’ is set for January 20 to 25.

“Please join us and help lift the veil that someone might see Jesus,” said Pastor Smith.
