Jameela Simmonds of Los Angeles, a student at Marcus Garvey School, was recently selected to participate in Nationals’ 2010 Miss Jr. Teen Los Angeles pageant competition that will take place on March 14, 2010. Jameela learned of her acceptance into this year’s competition as Nationals, Inc. announced its selection on Monday afternoon. Jameela submitted an application and took part in an interview session that was conducted by Natalie Michelle, this year’s Los Angeles Pageant Coordinator.

Jameela will be competing for her share of thousands of dollars in prizes and specialty gifts that will be distributed to contestants. Jameela will be competing in the Miss Jr. Teen division, one of four divisions that will have young ladies between the ages of 7 and 19 competing in modeling routines which include casual wear and formal wear. Most important, Jameela will display her personality and interviewing skills while interviewing with this year’s Los Angeles judging panel. Personality is the number one aspect that each contestant is judged on during all phases of competition.

If Jameela were to win the title of Miss Jr. Teen Los Angeles, she would represent Los Angeles and the surrounding communities at the Cities of America National Competition that will take place in Orlando, Florida. Over $60,000.00 in prizes and awards will be presented at the National Competition while each winner enjoys this expense paid trip of five nights and six days in Orlando, Florida.

There is no cost to Jameela for participating in the pageant competition. The Los Angeles NAACP is one of the community organizations that has beeen approached for sponsorship; in addition, Miss Miami Carnival Pageant has provided technical assistance; and advice has also been received from former Lt. Governor/ Congressman emeritus, the Honorable Mervyn M. Dymally, a potential sponsor. These supporters and other potential sponsors will allow Jameela to become a very confident and well-prepared contestant in this year’s Los Angeles Pageant.

Jameela has also had bit parts in “ER,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Commander-in-Chief,”

a “Jada-Kiss” music video and a Sears Sweepstakes commercial.

Any business, organization, or private individual who may be interested in becoming a sponsor to Jameela may contact her pageant coordinator, Natalie Michelle at 1-800-569-2487.
