Lenten Season
By Niele Anderson
Published February 26, 2009

February 25th marked Ash Wednesday the first day or the start of the season of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are not included in the count).

Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Resurrection Sunday/Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. During some Ash Wednesday services, the minister will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers.

This is a time to reflect and remember all things can be made new, because of the blood of Jesus. It's a time to draw closer to God by giving up personal desires for a closer walk with him. Lent ends on Resurrection Sunday, April 12.
